Two Detentions Following London Heathrow Irritant Spray Attack

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
This incident caused the temporary closure of the CTA tunnel and the T3 parking area.

An additional two individuals are now in custody related to a robbery at London's Heathrow Airport where 21 people sustained injuries by a substance believed to be an irritant spray, as stated by police.

A 24-year-old man, was taken into custody in Lambeth on suspicion of robbery and assault and a 23-year-old woman was detained for suspected conspiracy to commit robbery. They both are still being held, the force said.

The arrests come after a probe into an assault at the multi-level parking garage at Terminal 3 this past Sunday. Before the attack, two women were robbed of their luggage upon exiting a car park lift.

A three-year-old girl was among the those hurt during the incident. A total of five individuals went to hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.

Police detained a man in his thirties on suspicion of robbery and assault close to the location. He has since been released under investigation as the investigation proceeds.

Authorities were alerted at about 08:10 GMT after reports came in regarding several people injured by an irritating chemical thought to be pepper spray.

The attack - which authorities stated was a standalone incident and not considered terrorism - resulted in train delays and the temporary shutdown of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 parking facility for a short time.
